Strong people. Strong culture. Strong communities.

Cape York Grassroots Aboriginal Corporation walks beside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Cape York and Far North Queensland — delivering community-led outreach, practical family support, and connection to culture, Country and essential services.

We exist so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our region can access support that is local, respectful and led by community — not delivered to it.

Too often, services reach Cape York from far away and leave just as quickly. We are different. Based in Cairns and rooted in community, our team shows up in person, listens first, and stays for the long haul. From a yarn over a cup of tea to help navigating housing, health or hardship — we meet people where they are.

Everything we do is guided by the people we serve: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities in rural and remote Cape York, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who call Far North Queensland home.

Dense green rainforest of Cape York, Far North Queensland

From Cairns to the tip of Cape York, this is our Country and our community.

Our office sits on Mulgrave Road in Cairns. Our work travels — along the Peninsula Developmental Road, into townships and remote communities, wherever families ask us to come.

Three promises we make to community

Self-determination first

Nothing about community, without community. Our programs are shaped by the voices of the people who use them — Elders, parents, young people and local leaders. We advocate for communities to make their own decisions, and we back those decisions with practical support.

Grassroots outreach, always

We don't wait for people to find us. Our team visits homes, attends community events and shows up when times are hard — with food relief, a listening ear, and help connecting to health, housing, legal and family services. Trust is built face to face, and we invest in it every week.

Culture as strength

Connection to culture, language and Country is not an extra — it is the foundation of wellbeing. We create spaces for cultural connection, support Elders to share knowledge, and make sure every service we deliver respects and strengthens cultural identity.
